Snake Plant Care Cheat Sheet

Snakes plants are easy going houseplants great for plant owners that enjoy being hands off, but love a good view. They come in a lot of shapes and sizes and are considered slow growers.

Lighting: This is considered one of the ultimate low light tolerant plants, but can handle 5-6 hours of direct sunlight touching the foliage without burning. To maintain the plant's size, a minimum of 100 FC is required. For good growth, 200 FC is ideal.

Watering: This plant likes to dry out the majority of the way between watering. Most Snake Plants store water in their stems and can handle going quite a while without water, depending on their lighting situation.

This quick cheat sheet is meant to give you tips and tricks for how to best care for your plant. All of the information above is based on my personal experience and advice with houseplants and the lighting requirements are a reference from Daryl Chang of House Plant Journal.

*FC is lighting measured in Foot Candles and requires a light meter to get an accurate reading.
