Spider Plant Care Cheat Sheet

Updated: Apr 1

Spider plants are a lovely easy going household plant that can be found in residences all over. They are considered pet-friendly and are specifically like cat-nip to felines.

Lighting: This plant can handle 2-3 hours of direct sunlight touching the foliage. These can tolerate lower light but will quickly grow in a bright indirect light situation. To maintain the plant's size, a minimum of 200 FC is required, but for good growth, you want around 400 FC. .

Watering: This plant likes to dry out at least 2/3 of the way between watering. It prefers to dry most of the way out, and the leaves will begin to droop when they are ready to be watered.

This quick cheat sheet is meant to give you tips and tricks for how to best care for your plant. All of the information above is based on my personal experience and advice with houseplants and the lighting requirements are a reference from Daryl Chang of House Plant Journal.

*FC is lighting measured in Foot Candles and requires a light meter to get an accurate reading.
